Robust healthcare infrastructure is integral to a thriving community. The City of Pickering continues to invest in its healthcare sector with many ongoing iniatives:

Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre

The Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre opened in 2025, bringing a new state-of-the-art health and wellness facility to Pickering that offers a wide range of connected health-care services under one roof. 

Key Features:

  • The Surgical Centre has Four operating rooms projected to complete over 9,000 surgical cases annually.
  • Primary and Urgent Care includes Family medicine services and an urgent care clinic.
  • Specialist Services that Include mental health programs, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and specialist physicians, as well as a pharmacy. 

The growing Durham Region has a broad spectrum of health-care needs, and the many providers at the Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre help increase access to vital community care services. Other key health-care services being offered in the Centre include: 

  • Lakeridge Health’s Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT): This unique, community-based mental health program provides direct treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. 
  • Lakeridge Health’s Central East Prehospital Care Program (CEPCP): Also known as the “Base Hospital,” the CEPCP provides continuing medical education to paramedics and other prehospital care providers in the Durham Region. 
  • Priority Health, conveniently located on the first floor of the Jerry Coughlan Health and Wellness Centre, spans an impressive 4,000 square feet, and aims to provide exceptional care in both Family Medicine and Urgent Care. They offer medicine offices and Urgent Care, where they deliver a comprehensive range of urgent care services. 

The Provincial Government also recently announced that a new Post Acute Care Centre will be coming to Pickering in the future. It will be Durham Region’s first stand-alone Post-Acute Rehabilitation Centre, designed to provide seamless care from hospital to home. Here’s what this means:  

  • Comprehensive Support, offering specialized care and support tailored to meet diverse recovery needs.
  • Patient-Centered Care that focuses on personalized care plans to improve patient outcomes.
  • Expanded Health Services that significantly expand local health services, providing essential care during the critical recovery phase.
  • Reduced Re-admissions helps prevent hospital re-admissions by providing necessary assistance before issues escalate.
  • Community Commitment: Reinforces Pickering’s commitment to a healthier and stronger community.
