Highway 7 Widening (Pickering to Markham)

Improving Transportation for a Growing Region

Project Overview

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) is undertaking a study to widen Highway 7 from approximately Reesor Road in Markham to Brock Road in Pickering, a corridor of about 10 kilometres. Currently a two-lane roadway, the corridor is being evaluated for expansion to four lanes to improve traffic flow, support growth, and enhance regional connectivity, including development within the Pickering Innovation Corridor.

What’s Being Studied

  • Widening from two to four lanes
  • Replacement of the Little Rouge Creek bridge
  • Potential rail grade separation at the CPKC crossing
  • Environmental and community impact assessments
  • Active transportation opportunities (walking and cycling)

Why This Matters

This project is expected to:

  • Improve travel times and reduce congestion
  • Support economic and employment growth
  • Enhance connectivity across the region
  • Align with long-term growth in Pickering
